Foxfooding: Tab Notes

05 stycznia - 16 stycznia 2026

Thank you for helping us test tab notes! We’re excited to offer this proof-of-concept feature for you to get an early look at, and we appreciate your help in identifying gaps in the experience.

You can find us in the https://matrix.to/#/#foxfooding:mozilla.org channel if you have any questions or need support.

TL;DR

    • What: Tab notes feature lets you add notes to web pages you open in Firefox. Watch a 30-second demo here.
    • Where: Nightly – the feature is available to all users with no restrictions and no pref flipping.
    • Where do we need the most help? Notes are associated with URLs rather than tabs. Tabs are ephemeral and disposable, while URLs provide a better foundation for notes that stick to the pages you added them to even if you close a tab or lose a session. However, URLs are not entirely static either, so we have implemented association logic that allows a note you added to “stick” to a page even when a URL changes slightly as you click an anchor link within the same page, and correctly disappear if you open an unrelated URL in the same tab. We need your help validating that your notes stay correctly associated with a given web page in these three scenarios:
  • A note persists as you interact with the same webpage in the same tab in which you initially added it.
        • Example: add a note to a page with anchor links, like Firefox Privacy Notice. Click the button Read our Privacy Notice to go to the anchor heading on the same page. The page will scroll to the privacy notice text, and the note should persist.
  • A note disappears if you navigate away from the original URL where you added it.
        • Example: Add a note to an audiobook page. Then navigate to the author’s page on the same website or type an entirely different URL in the same tab. The note should not be displayed on the author’s page or on a different website you opened in the same tab.
  • A note resurfaces when you reopen the page where you initially added it.
      • Close the tab with the page where you added a note. Reopen it in any way you usually do – via the shortcut, History, or Recently closed tabs. The note should be displayed in the
